CEBU, Philippines — Senior ASEAN officials are engaging more directly with emerging technology firms as the bloc looks to strengthen digital infrastructure and economic resilience, affirming how startups are becoming part of regional policy conversations once dominated by governments and multilateral agencies.
During the recently concluded ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Satvinder Singh, deputy secretary-general overseeing the ASEAN Economic Community held a strategic meeting with Philippine startup OMG! Crazy-Fast to discuss next-generation digital and logistics systems designed to withstand large-scale disruptions.
The talks centered on how advanced infrastructure — including decentralized operating systems and high-speed distribution networks — can help maintain cross-border supply chains in a region increasingly exposed to climate shocks, geopolitical tension and cyber risk.
ASEAN officials are seeking private-sector partners capable of delivering what policy makers describe as “resilience-first” technology as the 10-member bloc accelerates digital integration.
OMG! Crazy-Fast is developing protocols aimed at keeping trade and logistics flows operational during system failures, aligning with ASEAN’s push to ensure uninterrupted economic activity across member states.
The company’s asset-light, software-driven model reflects a broader regional shift toward intelligence-heavy infrastructure that prioritizes adaptability over fixed physical networks.
“We share a vision for an interconnected, resilient Southeast Asia,” the company said adding that the engagement signals growing recognition of Philippine deep-tech firms in regional planning.
The meeting highlights ASEAN’s evolving strategy of pairing institutional leadership with high-growth startups as it seeks to cement its position as a global digital hub.
Policymakers increasingly view local innovation ecosystems as critical to scaling solutions for a combined economy of more than 650 million people, where seamless digital trade and logistics are becoming central to competitiveness.
The ASEAN Economic Community aims to create a single market and production base across Southeast Asia, promoting freer movement of goods, services and investment while integrating the region more deeply into global supply chains.
